Driver CPC part 2 test: Case studies
Price from: £300
CPC modules 2 and 4: prepares you for both the theoretical and practical components of professional driving tests.
Module 2 Case studies.
The test taken at a Theory test centre is made up of 7 case studies that you work through on a computer. The case studies are short stories based on situations that you’re likely to come across in your working life as an LGV driver. There is a separate test for Bus drivers taking the Public service vehicle career route.
You’ll be asked between 5 and 10 multiple-choice questions on each case study.
The test lasts for 1 hour and 15 minutes, and the pass mark is 40 out of 50.
Questions in the test are based on 3 books:
The Official DVSA Guide to Driving Goods Vehicles or The Official DVSA Guide to Driving Buses and Coaches
The links below found on the Gov.uk website ‘Become a lorry or bus driver – CPC part 2 case studies can be a great source of knowledge to prepare for the test. You can book a test via the same Gov.uk portal as your LGV Theory and Hazard Perception test.
Driver CPC part 2: case studies for Heavy Goods Vehicle Drivers if you’re learning to drive a lorry
Driver CPC part 2: case studies for Bus and Coach Drivers if you’re learning to drive a bus or coach
Driver CPC part 4 test: practical demonstration
You must have passed the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) part 2 test before you can book the Driver CPC part 4 test.
If you’re qualifying as a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) or bus driver by taking parts 2 and 4 of the test, you cannot book your test online. You have to book by phone instead.

Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm
We offer the test preparation as part of your Initial CPC package, and the booking of the test at a local test centre, which includes the use of our vehicle that you took your 3A and B test in.
How the test works
You’re tested on being able to:
load the vehicle following safety rules and to keep it secure
stop trafficking in illegal immigrants
assess emergency situations
reduce physical risks to yourself or others
do a walkaround vehicle safety check
The test is made up of 5 topics from the Driver CPC syllabus. You can score up to 20 points for each topic.
To pass you have to score at least 15 out of 20 in each topic area and have an overall score of at least 80 out of 100.
Our experienced trainer will deliver extensive training for your Module 4 test to ensure you feel confident and well-prepared. This includes online learning, private practice, and thorough vehicle checks to refresh your knowledge of the vehicle's critical security and safety features, as well as best practice techniques. This ensures you know exactly how to secure a load properly, using the load restraint demonstration trolley that is used on tests.
What you will gain
Our course includes both the Driver CPC Initial Qualification Module 4 training and testing. Upon passing, you will be issued a Driver Qualification Card by the DVLA, valid for five years. To maintain your certification, you will need to complete 35-hour Driver CPC Periodic training, that can be taken online or with our partners at Southeast transport training on an engaging driver specific group session basis.
